YOUR HEALTH MATTERS
Is Your Home Making You Sick?
There can be many factors affecting you and your families health; your home may be one of those factors.
But the only way to truly confirm if your home is the culprit is to have professional inspecting and testing performed to find the hidden hazards lurking in your home.
Understanding Mold
Mold / Microbial Growth
Mold, or microbial (organic) growth, can be found anywhere. It is an important part of our environment and ecosystem.
Mold is a unique part of the environment because it is an allergen that can affect your health by making you sneeze or cough. It also produces toxins like various types of chemicals.
Mold can be visible or nearly invisible when it first begins growing on a surface and when the spores are airborne. Although musty smells can indicate mold growth, mold can also grow without creating an odor.

How Mold Grows
Mold can be found anywhere water is allowed to remain for 48 hours or more. Humidity above 60% can also lead to mold growth. Mold needs three main sources to grow.
- A food source, such as wood framing, the drywall paper backing, carpeting, cabinetry, books, cardboard boxes
- A water source like water intrusion into the home, water leaks inside the walls or high humidity.
- Temperatures typically between the low 40’s to the 100’s with high humidity.
Where Does Mold Grow
Mold growth can be found anywhere in or around the home but it does need a source and food. So the typical locations to find it will be wet or damp areas like Kitchens, Bathrooms, around Windows, under the house like Basements and Crawlspaces.

Black Mold vs. Mildew
Black mold is not necessarily black in color. ‘Black mold’ or Stachybotrys chartarum is actually greenish-black in color.
Too often mildew in the corner of the shower (as an example) is mistaken for ‘black mold’ because of the black color of mildew. These two types of growth are very different in their severity as a health hazard.
Don’t take chances with the health of your family. Have The Mold Test Company professionally determine what is going on in your home.
Actual Black Mold
…or Stachybotrys is among the most sever types of mold with the worst health hazards associated.
These hazards could include respiratory problems, eye and skin irritations, neurological problems (like memory loss). With long-term effects such as Chronic fatigue, Asthma, Allergic reactions, Immune system dysfunction, Lung damage or even Bleeding lungs
So be aware of greenish and black groupings of growth with less surrounding discoloration when compared to other types of growth.

The 4 types of mold that may be affecting you and your family.
Allergenic Molds
Much like the name suggests, Allergenic Molds can trigger allergic reactions in susceptible individuals.
These types of molds can release spores into the air, which individuals breath in and can cause an immune response.
Pathogenic Molds
Pathogenic molds are types of fungi capable of causing infections and diseases in humans and other organisms by growing on or inside the body.
Individuals with a weak immune system are more susceptible to reactions and developing infections.
Toxic Molds
Toxic Molds refer to the type that release micro-toxins (the poisonous chemical byproducts of the mold’s metabolic processes). Unlike allergenic and pathogenic molds which only produce side effects, toxic molds intentionally harm other living things.
Stachybotrys (black mold), is a commonly known Toxic Mold.
Antigenistic Molds
Antigenistic molds act as super antigens in the body of mold sensitive individuals. These antigens are not easily processed by the body and often result in auto-immune symptoms and diseases.
These molds are a common cause of mold allergies and can trigger symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, skin rashes, and wheezing.
